The aim and limitations of the Community of Interest information web pages

The aim of these web pages is to provide communities of interest with a way of getting statistical information related to their community.   The INTERIM plans (see notes on Bradford Communities of Interest Working Group) revealed that most Community of Interest experienced difficulties in getting statistical information about their communities.

In recent years there have been substantial improvements in the availability and accessibility of statistical data for neighbourhood based community groups.   In Bradford the Bradford Community Statistics Project and its website have been particularly useful.   Inadvertently new inequalities have occurred where neighbourhood based communities are more able to evidence their need for either services delivered to their communities or to attract funding for projects based within neighbourhoods.   The long term aim of this web site is to address this issue through providing comparable data and special data where appropriate to evidence a range of community of interest needs.

The designers of these web pages are aware that the information provided is very limited.   However, Bradford’s Community of Interest Working Group felt that it was important to get something up and running even as a first step.   The web site designers have decided on a two stage approach to enabling the collection, dissemination and display of community of interest data.

First stage: Get a debate going about information needs

It will be immediately apparent to anyone looking at the information within the web pages that there are more communities of interest that we have no information about as those that we do.   It may be that you may know of a suitable source of data that could be added to the pages.   If you do please:

Second stage: Match data availability for Communities of Interest with data already available for Neighbourhood based communities

There will inevitably be a need to develop surveys of specific communities where no data is currently available.   There is some funding available through the Bradford Community Statistics Project to work towards developing an information base for Communities of Interest

A consultation process will be organised with community of interest groups around their information needs.   This will be fed into the development of these web pages and into other information resources for Communities of Interest
