Bradford could expect to have 60,000 people fulfilling a caring role, but few will recognise themselves by the name carer. Since 1995 National legislation has repeatedly defined who carers are and it is vital that we help individuals to recognise themselves by this title to access services. A carer may give a substantial amount of physical (including personal tasks), emotional or practical support and the caring will have a big impact on their lives. Carers live in every part of the District and come from all economic backgrounds and communities. Some carers are in employment, but many are not. Their ages range from the very young (under 16) to over 80 years old.
