People affected by HIV/Aids is a sub-category of:
Health
People affected by HIV/Aids is also related to: Drug and alcohol users,
People living with HIV/AIDS
- A diagnosis of HIV/AIDS is still often assumed to be a death sentence.
- However, the nature of the illness is changing. New drugs and complementary
therapies now mean that the condition can be managed. While some people
require intense medical support at certain periods, there are long periods
when little intervention is required. People now live with AIDS/HIV.
- As a consequence the emphasis on service provision has changed – people
are looking to get on with their lives. They are interested in education,
employment and quality of life as are all other Bradford citizens.
- The barrier to their involvement in the wider community is the stigma
and discrimination that is still attached to people with HIV/AIDS, often
because of ignorance about the nature of the illness.
