This website contains the latest mid-year population estimates. At present the most up-to-date population figures relate to mid-year 2006.

It also contains population estimates for each year since 2001. In the light of revisions to migration numbers, the population estimates for 2002-2005 were amended in August 2007.

The population estimates provide a district population figure, as well as a breakdown by age and gender. They also include the number of births, deaths and an estimation of migration for each year.

ONS also publish population figures broken down by Ethnic Group and for the Super Output Areas (SOAs). These are still being developed and are described as ‘Experimental Statistics’ by ONS. A guide to experimental statistics can be found on the ONS website at

http://www.statistics.gov.uk/CCI/nugget.asp?ID=173

* 16-64 for males; 16-59 for females.
